VIDEO: We’re Going Into the Greatest Depression: “They Will Not Be Able To Pull Off the Stimulus Game Again”

Mac Slavo
June 29, 2013

Look around and you can’t miss it.
The world is on the brink… politically, economically, financially, monetarily, and militarily.
Events are accelerating. Over the last decade trend forecaster Gerald Celente has been blaring the alarms.
If you’ve been paying attention, then you’ve heard them. You know we’re going under.
And this time they’re not going to be able to stop it.
It will be worse than the panic of ’08.  It will be deeper.  It will be more painful and there’s a reason why… because they will not be able to pull off the stimulus game again.
Everybody got hip to it and it didn’t work. You read even the Financial times, the major media, CNBC, Bloomberg… everyone will now admit that the stimulus only bought borrowed time. So the stimulus game doesn’t work anymore, and the governments are so in debt they can’t have the fiscal policy. So you have no monetary policy and you have no fiscal policy to stimulate the economy.
We’re going into the Greatest Depression.
But they will try to boost it some way. And that’s when I believe gold and silver prices will again skyrocket. They can stay low, I believe, for another several months… even a year. But I don’t see them staying down forever.
I don’t give financial advice. I’m a long term buyer and a long term holder of gold.
Why would I want this digital paper not worth the paper it’s not printed on?
And number two on this whole area of gold and the economy… I believe they’re going to take us to war just like they did during the Great Depression. When all else fails they take you to war and we’re hearing the war drums beating louder and louder throughout the middle east as the middle east is collapsing.
…Hey, great job that Noble Peace Prize winner Obama did…
Full Interview with Gerald Celente and Greg Hunter via USA Watchdog:

The end result of this economic destruction for many Americans, as Celente noted in a previous interview, will be a one way ticket aboard the Auschwitz Express and global war.
Forget about stock markets, bond prices and economic statistics being released by the government. Those don’t matter unless you’re actively trading or have your money in retirement accounts (in which case you might consider making an exit).
What matters now is insulating yourself as best as possible from the coming destruction to Americans’ wealth and day-to-day lives. As Celente suggests, gold is an asset you want to be in possession of. Likewise, when our system of commerce comes to a standstill as a result of the collapse of the world’s reserve currency you need to own barterable physical assets and have them easily accessible.
We will soon see what it truly means to live (and survive) in a depression.
With nearly 50 million Americans on food stamps, 100 million on welfare, and no economic progress in sight, it won’t be long before the world as we have come to know it changes drastically.
Expect riots, starvation and bloodshed. You can be 100% sure that the government is planning for exactly this scenario.
The signs, as they were before the crash of 2008, are everywhere. It’s happening right now.
Buckle up, folks.

New EU Plan Will Make Every Bank Account In Europe Vulnerable To Cyprus-Style Wealth Confiscation

Michael Snyder
The Economic Collapse
June 28, 2013

Did you actually believe that they were not going to use the precedent that they set in Cyprus?  On Thursday, EU finance ministers agreed to a shocking new plan that will make every bank account in Europe vulnerable to Cyprus-style bail-ins.  In other words, the wealth confiscation that we just witnessed in Cyprus will now be used as a template for future bank failures all over Europe.  That means that if you have a bank account in Europe, you could wake up some morning and every penny in that account over 100,000 euros could be gone.
That is exactly what happened in Cyprus, and now EU officials plan to do the same thing all over Europe.  For quite a while EU officials insisted that Cyprus was a “special case”, but now we see that was a lie.  International outrage over what happened in Cyprus has died down, and now they are pushing forward with what they probably had planned all along.  But why have they chosen this specific moment to implement such a plan?  Are they anticipating that we will see a wave of bank failures soon?  Do they know something that they aren’t telling us?
Amazingly, this announcement received very little notice in the international media.  The fact that bank account confiscation will now be a permanent part of the plan to bail out troubled banks in Europe should have made headline news all over the globe.  The following is how CNN described the plan…
European Union finance ministers approved a plan Thursday for dealing with future bank bailouts, forcing bondholders and shareholders to take the hit for bank rescues ahead of taxpayers.
The new framework requires bondholders, shareholders and large depositors with over 100,000 euros to be first to suffer losses when banks fail. Depositors with less than 100,000 euros will be protected. Taxpayer funds would be used only as a last resort.
According to this new plan, bondholders will be the first to be required to “contribute” when a bank bailout is necessary.
Do you want to guess what that is going to do to the price of European bank bonds?
Shareholders of the bank will be the next in line to get hit when a bank bailout happens.
After that, they will go after those that have more than 100,000 euros in their bank accounts.
EU officials say that such a plan is needed because bailing out banks with taxpayer money was creating too many problems
The European Union spent the equivalent of a third of its economic output on saving its banks between 2008 and 2011, using taxpayer cash but struggling to contain the crisis and – in the case of Ireland – almost bankrupting the country.
But a bailout of Cyprus in March that forced losses on depositors marked a harsher approach that can now, following Thursday’s agreement, be replicated elsewhere.
Oh wonderful – the “Cyprus solution” can now be “replicated” everywhere in Europe.
This plan will now be submitted to the European Parliament for final approval.  The goal is to have this plan finalized by the end of this year.

If you have a bank account in Europe with over 100,000 euros in it, get your money out now.
I am not sure how else to say it.
In Cyprus, there were retirees and small businesses that lost hundreds of thousands of euros overnight.
Do not let that happen to you.
And without a doubt, we are going to see a lot of banks fail in Europe over the next few years.  This will especially be true once the next great financial crisis strikes.
But even though we haven’t even gotten to the next great financial crisis yet, the economic depression in Europe just continues to get even worse.  Just consider these facts…
-Car sales in Europe have hit a 20 year low.
-Overall, the unemployment rate in the eurozone is sitting at 12.2 percent.  That is a brand new all-time record high.
-An average of 134 retail outlets are shutting down in Italy every single day.  Overall, 224,000 retail establishments have closed down in Italy since 2008.
-It is being projected that Italy will need to ask for an EU bailout within 6 months.
-Consumer confidence in France has dropped to an all-time low.
-The unemployment rate in France is up to 10.4 percent.  That is the highest that it has been in 15 years.
-Government is now responsible for 57 percent of all economic output in France.
-In May, household lending in Europe declined at the fastest pace in 11 months.
-During the first quarter, disposable income in the UK declined at the fastest pace in 25 years.
-It is being projected that the unemployment rate in Spain will hit 28.5 percent next year.
-Just a few years ago, the percentage of bad loans in Spain was under 2 percent.  Now it is sitting at 10.87 percent.
-The national debt in Spain has grown by 19.1 percent over the past 12 months alone.
-The Greek government says that the Greek economy will shrink by 4.5 percent this year.
-It is being projected that the unemployment rate in Greece will rise to30 percent in 2014.
And it certainly does not help that China has essentially declared a trade war on Europe.  That is not going to help struggling European industries at all.
I hope that more Americans will start paying attention to what is happening in Europe.  The crippling economic problems that are sweeping across that continent will come here too.
And at some point there is a very good chance that we will also see Cyprus-style bank account confiscation in this country.
So don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.  It is good to have your assets spread around a bunch of different places.  That makes it much harder for them to be wiped out all at once.
What we are watching in Europe right now is really unprecedented in modern times.  They are declaring open season on large bank deposits.  In the end, a lot of people in Europe are going to lose a lot of money.
Make sure that you are not one of them.

Federal Regulations Cut Standard of Living by 75 Percent Over 56 Years

Bob Adelmann
The New American
June 28, 2013

The 20th annual snapshot of the federal regulatory state published by the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) last month announced the arrival of an unhappy milestone: Regulatory costs now equal more than half of all federal spending. Put another way, the real cost of government in the United States is half-again as much as the federal budget. It is approaching a third of the country’s economic output. Said CEI in its Ten Thousand Commandments 2013 report: “Federal environmental, safety and health, and economic regulations cost hundreds of billions — perhaps trillions — of dollars every year over and above the costs of the official federal outlays that dominate the [current] policy debate.”
Just how many billions and trillions the regulatory state costs, and has cost, the American economy has been put into perspective by two economists in their paper, “Federal Regulation and Aggregate Economic Growth,” published in the June issue of the Journal of Economic Growth. Rather than count the cost in dollars, the authors, John W. Dawson and John J. Seater, take a unique approach and attempt to measure how much lower Americans’ standard of living is today compared to what it would be if regulations had stayed at the level they were in 1949, the starting point of their study. Their conclusion? The average American household’s income would be $27,500 a month instead of the $4,400 a month that it is currently.
In their study they count the pages of federal regulations from 1949 through 2005 and discover that they have grown by 600 percent, slowing the economy by an estimated two percent every year. In simple terms, today’s economy, which produces about $17 trillion in goods and services every year, would instead be producing almost $55 trillion. And the authors apologize that their study doesn’t reflect state and local regulations during that period as the effort that would have been required to collect and analyze them as well would have greatly exceeded their time and resources.
In a word, incomes and standard of living for the average American family would be even higher than they estimate, had that data been available. They also note that the avalanche of regulations under the Bush and Obama administrations were not included as part of their study.
There were only four years in that 56-year span when federal regulations declined: once under Reagan, and three under Clinton. In every other year, regulations increased, moving from 19,335 pages in 1949 to 134,261 in 2005.
Ronald Bailey, the science correspondent for Reason magazine and the author of “Global Warming and Other Eco-Myths,” evaluated the loss in standard of living in a different way but came to same conclusion. By adding two percent to the real historical 3.2 percent annual rate of growth in America’s economy from 1949 through 2011 — and then doing the math — he found that America’s economic output would be $49 trillion, just slightly below the $53.9 trillion estimated by Dawson and Seater. Bailey notes coyly:
Whatever the benefits of regulation [may be], an average household income of $330,000 per year would buy a lot in the way of health care, art, housing, environmental protection, and other amenities.

Bailey then speculated as to why governments do this to their citizens. He came up with three theories: politicians attempting to improve social welfare by correcting “market failures”; companies capturing control of the agencies regulating them in order to exclude competitors and increase their profits; and politicians seeking to increase their power.
There is, of course, a fourth theory not mentioned by Bailey but supported by the political reality of the emerging totalitarianism extant in the country. David Horowitz, in his explosive pamphlet “From Shadow Party to Shadow Government,” tracks the intents, purposes, and actions of a primary driver behind the current political scene, George Soros, and concludes that his agenda could essentially be distilled down to three overriding themes: the diminution of American power, the subjugation of American sovereignty in favor of one world government, and the implementation of a socialist redistribution of wealth.
This has been a common theme for decades, first exposed to light when a committee of Congress, the Reece Committee, investigated tax-exempt foundations in the early 1950s. Norman Dodd, the chief investigator for the committee, talked with Rowan Gaither, then-president of the Ford Foundation, who explained:
Mr. Dodd, all of us here at the policy-making level of the foundation have at one time or another served in the OSS (the Office of Strategic Services, the forerunner of the CIA) or [in] the European Economic Administration, operating under directives from the White House.
We operate under those same directives….
The substance of [those directives] is that we shall use our grant-making power to so alter life in the United States that we can be comfortably merged with the Soviet Union [in a one-world government].
All that the authors of the report published by the Journal of Economic Growth and the analysis by Bailey have done is to show just how successful those directives have been, and what they have cost Americans in unattained standards of living far beyond those being enjoyed today.

Three Reasons Why American Freedom, Prosperity And The U.S. Constitution Are All Dead And Can Never Be Rediscovered

As the video below demonstrate, even the anti feminist guys are clueless as to the real facts of why feminism (i.e., women's issues) is a liberty destroying cancer and why any discussion of so called "gender equality" will only lead up further down the path to tyranny and economic ruin.

Although this event took place on a campus in Toronto Canada, similar events are taking place all over America And Europe.

Watch the video below, revel in the psychbabble and after the video I'll break down the three events in American history that guarantee that America will continue to devolve into a third world police state.

Now, here are the three poison pills that guarantee the total destruction of America:

1 The Federal Reserve Act Of 1913: Our republic was actually taken over by European Banks with the Federal Reserve Act Of 1913. In effect, this criminal piece of legislation replaced America's hard gold and silver backed currency issued by the U.S. Treasury Department with an elastic debt based paper currency issued by a private international bank called the Federal Reserve. For the first time in American history politicians and central bankers had the power to introduce economically destructive spending programs and to raise taxes without legislation by simply running budget deficits and by expanding the money supply, i.e., inflation. The Federal Reserve Act Of 1913 is the funding mechanism and political driver for the bankrupt American welfare/warfare monster that we're all suffering under today.

2 The Federal Income Tax Act of 1913: In order to fund the interest payments on the national debt, which The Federal Reserve Act Of 1913 and the resulting nanny state was guaranteed to produce, a progressive and unconstitutional system of directly taxing the labor of American workers was needed. This is slavery!

3 The Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution Giving Women The Right To Vote: In order for the international banksters to consolidate their unconstitutional takeover of the American money supply and to guarantee that the equally unconstitutional debt driven implementation of the nanny state would be unopposed, they needed the help of a massive voting block of angry people who could be brainwashed to believe that the founding fathers were a bunch of misogynist bigots and that the U.S. Constitution was not designed to protect or represent them. Back in 1920 the banksters knew that a Christian male dominated electorate would never tolerate the high level of unconstitutional social engineering and criminal wealth confiscation that the banksters were aiming for. So enter the useful idiots. Enter the women's vote.....

The banksters lust for mega-wealth, power and control is the only reason why women were given the vote back in 1920 and the majority of today's women voters have been molded into a self entitled militant army of useful idiots who vote for openly corrupt and treasonous nanny state politicians who actually work for the international banking crime syndicate. In fact, today the female vote decides most elections and that's why even ostensibly conservative politicians, such as Mitt Romney, come off sounding like castrated feminists.

The international banksters debt laden nanny state, complete with family destroying divorce laws and gender bending "gender equality" workplace laws, have effectively made the government and the corporations the d-facto modern day husband. In today's America the father's role in the family has been reduced to the role of under achieving sperm doner and when his spirm doner duties are completed he is fit to be expelled from his home and to be raked over the coals in divorce court at the woman's slightest whim.

In reality, this whole feminism and "gender equality" charade is a vicious kind of economic warfare being waged by rich and powerful white men against the interests of both poor and middle class men and women. Thanks to the passage of the Federal Reserve Act Of 1913 and the Nineteenth Amendment, the once proud American Constitutional Republic has been transformed into a mean spirited, cannibalistic and bankrupt democratic welfare state.

Most of today's women voters have been brainwashed by the male power structure and used as a dumbed down political battering ram to destroy capitalism, destroy the family unit and to transfer countless trillions of dollars of wealth from working Americans and into the hands of politicians, international banksters and multinational corporations. .

While the banksters are laughing all the way to the bank, men and women are now at each-others throats as our economy goes into free fall! While the gender wars rage on the banksters, the politicians and the prestitute media are all busy poisoning the family unit, looting the treasury and slowly destroying the value of our labor and our savings. America's future is doomed to third world status as long as international bankers and multinational corporations are allowed to run our economy into the ground and as long as the majority of women insist upon voting for so called "liberal" politicians who are now openly trying to bankrupt the country, destroy the petrodollar, re-engineer society along eugenicist lines and to finally bring in world government. It's just that simple!

Scarey Mommies From Hell

Scarey Mommy
June 24, 2013

We now live in a society with over a 50% divorce rate where 70% of divorces are filed by the wife against her husband. After being on-line since 1997 I've very rarely seen a guy openly bash his wife or girlfriend on an internet post, but I see women slamming their husbands and boyfriends all the time and with sadistic pleasure. If this is the pent up toxic contempt that the majority of women harbor towards their husbands then western civilization is doomed! This is, as Pat Buchanan observed, "The Death Of The West".

The confessions listed below have been taken from just the Scarey Mommy web- site, and the posts listed below are only a small sample from just one women's posting board. Can you imagine how much more of this kind of dirt is actually out there? Nevertheless, these statements should be seen as a red flag and an ear shattering alarm bell for any guy even thinking that he might want to get married and start a family. If this is the beat that a guy can hope for in the 21st century ,after taking a marriage vow, than it's no wonder that our birth rates have fallen well below replacement levels and that our country is now being overrun by illegal aliens!

History teaches us that societies collapse when the people give in to debauchery and corruption. This is what Sodom And Gomorrah looks like circa 2013! Read 'em and weep!:

- The father of my child is a terrible father and I secretly hope he has a car accident quite often.... We are a couple and all but I just hate him and would rather he was gone from my child's life and mine.

- My son is eating pizza & playing on iPad while I sit next to him and sxt w/ his best friends dad. We've been having an affair for 4 yrs. He lives across the street.

- My husband pees sitting down. I married a real man :)

- I have to give my DH a blow job whenever I want money bc I'm a SAHM and he's so controlling with money. Extra money given for swallowing. I'm his live in prostitute I guess. I hate it and I hate him.

- I WISH I could use sex to get things done by DH.

- Im pathedic.I base my whole life around my married BF..and he constantly tells me he is going to do shit and never comes through, like divorcing his bitch..FML.Im a stupid stupid person

- I despise my sister so much that I wish she'd die. I don't care how, but she needs to go. The most evil soul I've ever known.

- I binge eat sugary foods and hate myself that I cant stop. I.mean really cant stop. I never purge only because I cant. Who the hell can give up drugs, booze and smoking but not cake? Hate myself daily.

- I've never wanted a divorce more in my married life, which, has only been 17 months :(

- I had amazing sex early yesterday morning with my fwb and amazing sex last night with my husband. Stopped on the way to work this morning and got it again from fwb. My husband wants more tonight. I know I'm playing with fire

- I am taking my kids back to my hometown alone bc DH can't get off work. I plan on meeting up with my high school boyfriend/first love who I should of married in the first place. Not sure "what" will happen. I can't wait.

- We can't afford daycare but can't afford for me to quit my job either. I'm the bread winner BY FAR, so looks like DH will get to stay home while I pump at work and BF all night. I love him so much, but I resent him now.

- I'm in a relationship with an awesome man! Couldn't ask for someone me or my kids. I can't stop cheating. Girls turn me on the most. I just slept with my ex and had sex with this girl this weekend. Why why

- I hate almost everyone. Is this real or do I have a mental disorder that can be treated? I don't like being so alone and avoiding people that are actually nice people.

- I left my husband for a women, which I am madly in love with. Now after a year of dating she says she doesn't want a relationship fml.

- I regret having kids.

- I cheated on my husband with my best friends brother, multiple times for a few months. Luckily I never got caught. It was the best sex of my life. It's been a few years and I still thinking about him.

- It is completely ridiculous for me to feel this way but I want another baby!! I'm not telling a soul, I'm just not going to practice any birth control.

- I have 2 guys on the side. After being married only 8 years I hate H and can't even stand his touch. I stick it out for the kids..that's what we are supposed to do, right??

- I am in love (maybe just lust) with someone other than my dh. What's worse is that he (the object of my lust) is by business partner and we are now financially married.

- I can't stand my asshole husband. I can't wait to fuck my hot lover.

- I regret my husband for conning me into having these children. If I had it my way neither would be here and i'd be free.

- If I could apologize to my DH and EAs wife, I would. But they would be devastated if they found out about me and EA. I don't want anyone to get hurt but I can't stop seeing EA and he says the feeling is mutual.

- Cheated on my dh for the first time. It felt so amazing to be put first. Itll probably happen again. Can't really believe another man wanted my post baby body

- I think I am going to be a better wife and mom if I can find a fuck buddy so I am not so damned frustrated all the time...

- Off to the doctor for depression meds. Again. Why can't I stay sane? Tired of feeling crazy so I'm just not going to feel. Scared they're gonna lock me up one of these times...

- When I was 20 I dumped the most amazing bf I ever had because I didn't wanna give up my 50-yr-old sugar daddy. I still think about the what-if's every day, 12 years later...

- Started my forever EA yesterday. This one might end up being the one I leave my jerk husband for.

- I'm falling for my friends husband. And I'm sure he is feeling the same for me. We know it's not gonna end well, but ewe can't help ourselves!

- Actually glad that dh will have to work out of town again in July! No getting dressed, keeping the house nice, cooking dinner every night and acting like I want to have sex with him. Dd and I will have plenty of pj days!

- Today I could walk away from it all. I want to be out on the ocean with a random man I met the night before at the local tiki bar. I hate being a mother today- right now. I would kill for my youth island freedom.

- I wanted to get pregnant so badly and now that I am I regret it and wish I would have done more with my life.

- I can't believe I actually went thru with it. And what makes it worse, DH fucked me like he was mad at me last nite too... Can he know? Did I feel different? Idk what I'm doing here. DH doesn't deserve this.

- I hate my husband, he is an abusive controlling bastard. I wish he would die and then I hope he rots in hell.

- I hate myself a lot of the time. I have a wonderful df, and even he thinks I'm crazy and bitchy since we had to move in with mom. Just want to break down. Didn't have to please anyone when I was single :(

- The worst thing Hubby and I ever did was get married.

- Just finished my most hated chore. Sex with DH.

- I don't really like sex. DH can't get me to cum no matter how hard he tries. I feel bad for him b/c he doesn't feel like a man, but I'm just not really into it

- We are both married. I'm scared to see him or be alone with him because i know eventually my will power will break and something will happen but I count the days until I see him again.

- I wish he would just agree to the divorce already. I hate pretending to be happy married to him.

- Sometimes, more often than not, I wish I had married a lawyer of a banker. Or someone with a real job. I hate doing everything

- I changed the password on my computer to "HesA#1Asshole" so I can remember daily that he is A #1 Asshole! I also have a postit note on the screen that says "D. C.!" to remind me that he is also a Douche Canoe.

- I hate my husband so bad.

- I wish DH would die every single day. I don't want to raise my child in a divorced environment, and I know he'd make my life hell if we ended it. It'd be better if he died for me and my child! I feel like a terrible person

- I went to counseling to see if there was any hope in my marriage... Her advice to me was to contact an attorney within the next few weeks to discuss custody and the house...

- I want to kill myself. But I don't trust h to raise the kids. I'm a shitty mom but he's an even shittier dad. So I'm stuck hating my life and wishing to die.

- I haven't worn my wedding ring for a couple of years and if DH has noticed, he hasn't mentioned it.

- My husband thinks I hate him because he can't support our family. I really hate myself for choosing him and accidentally getting pregnant and letting him talk me out of an abortion. I'm so stupid and my life is ruins

...........And the beat goes on and on.............. Isn't that just lovely?

76% of Americans Are Living Paycheck-to-Paycheck

CNN Money
by Angela Johnson
June 24, 2013

Roughly three-quarters of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck, with little to no emergency savings, according to a survey released by Monday.
Fewer than one in four Americans have enough money in their savings account to cover at least six months of expenses, enough to help cushion the blow of a job loss, medical emergency or some other unexpected event, according to the survey of 1,000 adults. Meanwhile, 50% of those surveyed have less than a three-month cushion and 27% had no savings at all.
"It's disappointing," said Greg McBride,'s senior financial analyst. "Nothing helps you sleep better at night than knowing you have money tucked away for unplanned expenses."
Even more disappointing: The savings rates have barely changed over the past three years, even though a larger percentage of consumers report an increase in job security, a higher net worth and an overall better financial situation.

So why aren't Americans saving more?
Last week, online lender CashNetUSA said 22% of the 1,000 people it recently surveyed had less than $100 in savings to cover an emergency, while 46% had less than $800. After paying debts and taking care of housing, car and child care-related expenses, the respondents said there just isn't enough money left over for saving more.

"There really hasn't been much relief," said Megan Stanton, director of marketing for CashNetUSA. "The economy is stagnant, $100 is not enough to help you out in an emergency."

How Many People Will Go Hungry When The U.S. Dollar Ponzi Scheme Collapses?

Market Bust
May 23, 2011

The U.S. Dollar which is not really even a dollar but rater a “Federal Reserve Note” is nothing more than a mirage in the desert.  Federal Reserve Notes are just that, Notes.  What is a Note? It is a formal piece of paper that says one person owes another money, in this case the Federal Reserve.
But what are they going to pay you back with? More Notes of course. And what makes these notes valuable? Nothing more than the belief of the people who use them.
And how are these notes created? Quite simply they are borrowed into existence. This means that Money is just debt. So if all of the debt were to be repaid tomorrow, there would be no more “official Money”. FIAT PONZI CURRENCY NOT BACKED BY ANYTHING EXCEPT HOPE.
But one day, and probably sooner than anyone expects, the CONFIDENCE IN FIAT DEBT CRACKHEAD MONEY WILL COLLAPSE ALMOST OVERNIGHT!
The people will realize that the government has borrowed so many FIAT DEBT DIGITS into existence and they are all worthless NOTES to be repaid with more worthless notes.

At that point there will be a massive rush to get anything they still can for the FIAT DEBT PONZI money that they have. They will see Silver and Gold rising huge amounts every day along with prices in all necessities rising as well.
To quote Richard Russell, “A hungry man is an angry man, and a hungry, angry man is a dangerous man.”
If you haven’t done so yet, get out of FIAT TRASH MONEY and buy physical silver and gold, money of history. Don’t wait for the stampede, because you will already be too late.
Got Silver?

The Biggest Ponzi Scheme In The History Of The World

Michael Snyder
The Economic Collapse
June 24, 2013

Did you know that you are involved in the most massive Ponzi scheme that has ever existed?  To illustrate my point, allow me to tell you a little story.  Once upon a time, there was a man named Sam.  When he was younger, he had been a very principled young man that had worked incredibly hard and that had built a large number of tremendously successful businesses.  He became fabulously wealthy and he accumulated far more gold than anyone else on the planet.  But when he started to get a little older he forgot the values of his youth.  He started making really bad decisions and some of his relatives started to take advantage of him.  One particularly devious relative was a nephew named Fred.  One day Fred approached his uncle Sam with a scheme that his friends the bankers had come up with.  What happened next would change the course of Sam’s life forever.
Even though Sam was the wealthiest man in the world by far, Fred convinced Sam that he could have an even higher standard of living by going into a little bit of debt.  In exchange for IOUs issued by his uncle Sam, Fred would give him paper notes that he printed off on his printing press.  Since the paper notes would be backed by the gold that Sam was holding, everyone would consider them to be valuable.  Sam could take those paper notes and spend them on whatever his heart desired.  Uncle Sam started to do this, and he started to become addicted to all of the nice things that those paper notes would buy him.
Fred took the IOUs that he received from his uncle and he auctioned them off to the bankers.  But there was a problem.  The IOUs issued by Uncle Sam had to be paid back with interest.  When the time came to pay back the IOUs, Uncle Sam could not afford to pay back the debts, pay the interest on those debts, and buy all of the nice things that he wanted.  So Uncle Sam issued even more IOUs than before so that he could get enough notes to pay off his debts.  As time rolled on, this pattern just kept on repeating.  Uncle Sam repeatedly paid off his old debts by taking out even larger new debts.
Meanwhile, since the notes that Uncle Sam was using were backed by gold, everyone else in the world decided to start using them to trade with one another.  This was greatly beneficial to Uncle Sam, because the rest of the world was glad to send him oil, home electronics, plastic trinkets and anything else that Uncle Sam wanted in exchange for his gold-backed notes.
Eventually, however, the rest of the world started to suspect that the number of gold-backed notes that Uncle Sam was issuing far exceeded the amount of gold that Uncle Sam actually had.  So the rest of the world started to trade in their notes for gold.
And by that time Uncle Sam definitely did not have enough gold to back up his notes.  Realizing that the scheme was starting to collapse, one day Uncle Sam announced that his notes would no longer be backed by gold.  But he insisted that the rest of the world should continue using his notes because he was the wealthiest man on the planet and everyone should just trust him.
And the rest of the world did continue to trust him, although it wasn’t the same as before.

As Uncle Sam got greedier and greedier, he started to issue IOUs and spend notes at a rate that nobody ever dreamed possible.  The great businesses that Uncle Sam had built when he was younger were starting to decline, and Uncle Sam started buying far more stuff from the rest of the world than they bought from him.  The rest of the world was still glad to take Uncle Sam’s notes because they used them to trade with one another, but they started accumulating far more notes than they actually needed.
Not sure exactly what to do with mountains of these notes, the rest of the world started to loan them back to Uncle Sam.  It eventually got to the point where Uncle Sam owed the rest of the world trillions of these notes.  Even though the notes were losing value at a rate of close to 10 percent a year, Uncle Sam somehow convinced the rest of the world to loan him notes at an average rate of interest of less than 3 percent a year.
One day Uncle Sam woke up and realized that the amount of debt that he owed was now more than 5000 times larger than it was when Fred had first approached him with this ill-fated scheme.  Uncle Sam now owed more than 16 trillion notes to his creditors, and Uncle Sam had already made future financial commitments of 202 trillion notes that he would never be able to pay.  Meanwhile, the notes that Fred had been printing up for Uncle Sam were now worth less than 5 percent of their original value.  Uncle Sam was becoming concerned because some of his other relatives were warning that this whole scheme was about to collapse.
Sadly, Uncle Sam did not listen to them.  Uncle Sam knew that if he admitted how fraudulent the financial scheme was, the rest of the world would quit sending him all of the things that he needed in exchange for his notes and they would quit lending his notes back to him at super low interest rates.
And if the rest of the world lost confidence in his notes and quit using them, Uncle Sam knew that his standard of living would go way, way down.  That was something that Uncle Sam could not bear to have happen.
When a financial crisis almost caused the scheme to crash in 2008, a desperate Uncle Sam went to Fred and asked for help.  In response, Fred started printing up far more notes than ever before and started directly buying up large amounts of IOUs from Uncle Sam with the notes that he was creating out of thin air.  Fred hoped that the rest of the world would not notice what he was doing.
It seemed to work for a little while, but then an even worse financial crisis came along.  Once again, Uncle Sam started issuing massive amounts of new IOUs and Fred started printing up giant mountains of new notes to try to fix things, but their desperate attempts to keep the system going were to no avail.  The rest of the world started to realize that they had been sucked into a massive Ponzi scheme, and they lost confidence in the notes that Uncle Sam was using.  Suddenly nobody wanted to lend notes to Uncle Sam at super low interest rates anymore, and people started asking for far more notes in exchange for the things that Uncle Sam wanted.
Uncle Sam’s standard of living dropped dramatically.  Since he could no longer flood the world with his notes, Uncle Sam could not continue to consume far, far more wealth than he produced.  Uncle Sam sunk into a deep depression as he watched the scheme fall apart all around him.
Uncle Sam had once been the wealthiest man on the entire planet, but now he was a broke, tired old man that was absolutely drowning in debt.  Unfortunately, once he was down on his luck the rest of the world did not have any compassion for him.  In fact, much of the rest of the world celebrated the downfall of Uncle Sam.
All of this could have been avoided if Uncle Sam had never agreed to Fred’s crazy scheme.  And once Uncle Sam made the decision to stop backing his notes with gold, it was only a matter of time before the scheme was going to collapse.
Does this little story sound crazy to you?  It shouldn’t.  The truth is that you are involved in such a scheme right now.  In case you haven’t figured it out, “Uncle Sam” is the United States, the “notes” are U.S. dollars, and “Fred” is the Federal Reserve.
Please share this story with as many people as you can.  Our country is headed for complete and total financial disaster, and we need to get people educated about this while there is still time.

IRS scandal expands: Now EPA accused of selectively targeting conservative groups

J. D. Heyes
Natural News
June 23, 2013

As bad as it was that the Internal Revenue Service targeted conservative and Tea Party groups filing for tax-exempt status, it appears now that the IRS wasn’t the only federal agency doing so.
According to June 4 Fox News report, the Environmental Protection Agency - itself used by successive administrations to harass and punish Americans – was also targeting conservative groups:
The allegations concern the [EPA], which is being accused of trying to charge conservative groups fees while largely exempting liberal groups. The fees applied to Freedom of Information Act requests – allegedly, the EPA waived them for liberal groups far more often than it did for conservative ones.

‘This cannot be tolerated’
The report said the allegations are now under investigation by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, as well as the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the latter of which has been extra busy lately, given the ever expanding number and scope of Obama Administration scandals.
“I don’t think it is fair at all. It is not fair to the American taxpayer – the American taxpayer should expect and demand that the EPA treats everyone equally in regard to these requests,” Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Pa., a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, told the news network. “This cannot be tolerated. As we see more federal agencies with this kind of bias, it is and should be a concern for all of us.”
Such institutional bias is routine, however, because it is ingrained in most of the federal bureaucracy, according to research by the Competitive Enterprise Institute, itself a conservative think tank based in Washington, D.C., especially when it comes to deciding which groups have to pay a fee and which of them do not.

Christopher Horner, senior fellow at CEI, says liberal groups tend to have their fees for documents waived nine out of 10 times – though conservative groups tend to have to pay document fees just as often.
“The idea is to throw hurdles in our way,” Horner told Fox News. He went onto say that he decided to examine the fee structure after the EPA repeatedly turned down his group for waivers.
“In 20 cases of ours, since the beginning of last year, we were expressly denied, or denied by them simply refusing to respond, in 18 out of 20 cases,” Horner said.

EPA – We didn’t do that’
“Earth Justice was batting 17 out of 19, the Sierra Club was the worst, at 70 percent granted, 11 out of 15. You add up some other groups and we found that 75 out of 82 groups granted, because these are the groups that the EPA has decided are the favored groups,” he said.
Of course the EPA denies any favoritism, but the agency’s obsession with progressive “green” issues belies its political bent.
Bob Perciasepe, the EPA’s acting administrator, said to the House energy panel May 16 that “our policy is to treat everybody the same,” and that the agency is considering pursuing an investigation. Only considering; so don’t expect much.
“The Office of Inspector General received from the Environmental Protection Agency the official request to look into this matter just over a week ago, so the request is currently under review by the OIG at this early stage,” the EPA said in a statement.

Next up: Health care reform
Horner remains unconvinced. He says fees or outright denials for information are tactics used by government agencies to thwart groups in which senior leaders disagree politically or to keep certain information from being made public.
“This is no different than denying a group that you don’t agree with … whether you are the IRS or the EPA, their tax-exempt status,” said Horner. “You’re talking about essentially making or breaking them, or at a minimum, snuffing out their ability to pursue their objectives.”
Have you noticed a trend here? All of these abuses are being committed by tenured bureaucrats who believe in a big, all-powerful federal government. Doubt me? Then why aren’t we hearing stories about how federal agencies are getting smaller and less intrusive?
Still think health care reform should be a government function?

Congress Moves to Create New Surveillance Agency Under NDAA 2014

Kurt Nimmo
June 21, 2013

Earlier this year, the House Subcommittee on Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities, one of several Armed Services Committees, discussed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2014.
“The main subject of the hearing was Sec. 1061, otherwise known as Enhancement of Capacity of the United States Government to Analyze Captured Records,” writes Stephen Benavides. “This enhancement provision of NDAA 2014 would effectively create a new intelligence agency, one with the authority to analyze information gained under the Patriot Act, FISA, and known spying programs such as PRISM.”

Bilderberg 2013: British Treasury Admits Chancellor Held Discussions In Official Capacity

Taxpayer will foot the bill for George Osborne’s expenses at secret meeting

Steve Watson
June 21, 2013

The British government has officially responded to a Freedom of Information Act request regarding the Chancellor of The Exchequer’s presence at the 2013 Bilderberg Group meeting.
In a letter penned by the Treasury, James Underwood of the Rights Unit, provides answers to three questions penned by Alexander Baron of the Digital Journal.
In his May 7th letter, Baron asked whether George Osborne, Britain’s head finance minister, would attend the Bilderberg meeting held in Watford from 6-9 June. He also asked in what capacity Osborne would be attending and who would be paying for his expenses.
The Treasury responded AFTER the conclusion of the conference to confirm that Osborne did indeed attend, and that his expenses would be paid for by the Treasury – ie the taxpayer.

NSA Spying On – and Blackmailing – Top Government Officials and Military Officers

Washington’s Blog
June 21, 2013

NSA whistleblower Russel Tice – a key source in the 2005 New York Times report that blew the lid off the Bush administration’s use of warrantless wiretapping – told Peter B. Collins on Boiling Frogs Post (the website of FBI whistleblower Sibel Edmonds):
Tice: Okay. They went after–and I know this because I had my hands literally on the paperwork for these sort of things–they went after high-ranking military officers; they went after members of Congress, both Senate and the House, especially on the intelligence committees and on the armed services committees and some of the–and judicial. But they went after other ones, too. They went after lawyers and law firms. All kinds of–heaps of lawyers and law firms. They went after judges. One of the judges is now sitting on the Supreme Courtthat I had his wiretap information in my hand. Two are former FISA court judges. They went after State Department officials. They went after people in theexecutive service that were part of the White House–their own people. They went after antiwar groups. They went after U.S. international–U.S. companies that that do international business, you know, business around the world. They went after U.S. banking firms and financial firms that do international business. They went after NGOs that–like the Red Cross, people like that that go overseas and do humanitarian work. They went after a few antiwar civil rights groups. So, you know, don’t tell me that there’s no abuse, because I’ve had this stuff in my hand and looked at it. And in some cases, I literally was involved in the technology that was going after this stuff. And you know, when I said to [former MSNBC show host Keith] Olbermann, I said, my particular thing is high tech and you know, what’s going on is the other thing, which is the dragnet. The dragnet is what Mark Klein is talking about, the terrestrial dragnet. Well my specialty is outer space. I deal with satellites, and everything that goes in and out of space. I did my spying via space. So that’s how I found out about this.
Collins: Now Russ, the targeting of the people that you just mentioned, top military leaders, members of Congress, intelligence community leaders and the–oh, I’m sorry, it was intelligence committees, let me correct that–not intelligence community, and then executive branch appointees. This creates the basis, and the potential for massive blackmail.
Tice: Absolutely! And remember we talked about that before, that I was worried that the intelligence community now has sway over what is going on. Now here’s the big one. I haven’t given you any names. This was is summer of 2004. One of the papers that I held in my hand was to wiretap a bunch of numbers associated with, with a 40-something-year-old wannabe senator from Illinois. You wouldn’t happen to know where that guy lives right now, would you? It’s a big white house in Washington, DC. That’s who they went after. And that’s the president of the United States now.

Other whistleblowers say the same thing.  When the former head of the NSA’s digital spying program – William Binney – disclosed the fact that the U.S. was spying on everyone in the U.S. and storing the data forever, and that the U.S. was quickly becoming a totalitarian state, the Feds tried to scare him into shutting up:
[Numerous] FBI officers held a gun to Binney’s head as he stepped naked from the shower. He watched with his wife and youngest son as the FBI ransacked their home. Later Binney was separated from the rest of his family, and FBI officials pressured him to implicate one of the other complainants in criminal activity. During the raid, Binney attempted to report to FBI officials the crimes he had witnessed at NSA, in particular the NSA’s violation of the constitutional rights of all Americans. However, the FBI wasn’t interested in these disclosures. Instead, FBI officials seized Binney’s private computer, which to this day has not been returned despite the fact that he has not been charged with a crime.
Other NSA whistleblowers have also been subjected to armed raids and criminal prosecution.
After high-level CIA officer John Kiriakou blew the whistle on illegal CIA torture, the governmentprosecuted him for espionage.
Even the head of the CIA was targeted with extra-constitutional spying and driven out of office.  Indeed, Binney makes it very clear that the government will use information gained from its all-pervasive spying program to frame anyone it doesn’t like.
(More examples here.)
Retired high-level CIA analyst Ray McGovern – the top CIA briefer to numerous presidents – said this a few weeks ago on a radio program:
Which leads to the question, why would [Obama] do all these things? Why would he be afraid for example, to take the drones away from the CIA? Well, I’ve come to the conclusion that he’s afraid. Number one, he’s afraid of what happened to Martin Luther King Jr. And I know from a good friend who was there when it happened, that at a small dinner with progressive supporters – after these progressive supporters were banging on Obama before the election, “Why don’t you do the things we thought you stood for?” Obama turned sharply and said, “Don’t you remember what happened to Martin Luther King Jr.?” That’s a quote, and that’s a very revealing quote.
McGovern also said:
In a speech on March 21, second-term Obama gave us a big clue regarding his concept of leadership – one that is marked primarily by political risk-avoidance and a penchant for “leading from behind”: “Speaking as a politician, I can promise you this: political leaders will not take risks if the people do not demand that they do. You must create the change that you want to see.”
John Kennedy was willing to take huge risks in reaching out to the USSR and ending the war in Vietnam. That willingness to take risks may have gotten him assassinated, as James Douglass argues in his masterful JFK and the Unspeakable.
Martin Luther King, Jr., also took great risks and met the same end. There is more than just surmise that this weighs heavily on Barack Obama’s mind. Last year, pressed by progressive donors at a dinner party to act more like the progressive they thought he was, Obama responded sharply, “Don’t you remember what happened to Dr. King?”
We’re agnostic about McGovern’s theory. We don’t know whether Obama is a total corrupt sell-out … or a chicken. We don’t think it matters … as the effect is the same.

Lawyers eye NSA data as treasure trove for evidence in murder, divorce cases

Bob Sullivan
NBC News
June 21, 2013

The National Security Agency has spent years demanding that companies turn over their data. Now, the spy agency finds the shoe is on the other foot. A defendant in a Florida murder trial says telephone records collected by the NSA as part of its surveillance programs hold evidence that would help prove his innocence, and his lawyer has demanded that prosecutors produce those records.
On Wednesday, the federal government filed a motion saying it would refuse, citing national security. But experts say the novel legal argument could encourage other lawyers to fight for access to the newly disclosed NSA surveillance database.
“What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, I guess,” said George Washington University privacy law expert Dan Solove. “In a way, it’s kind of ironic.”
Defendant Terrance Brown is accused of participating in the 2010 murder of a Brinks security truck driver. Brown maintains his innocence, and claims cellphone location records would show he wasn’t at the scene of the crime. Brown’s cellphone provider — MetroPCS — couldn’t produce those records during discovery because it had deleted the data already.

Some Good News Amidst All the Bad

Most Americans – 76% of them, in fact – have never heard of the DHS’s propaganda, “See Something, Say Something.” In case you’re among that blessed set, “SS-SS” (such appropriate initials, don’t you think?) is Our Rulers’ effort to turn us all into snitches. Or as The Prospector puts it, SS-SS “encourages people to help prevent danger in their own communities by reporting suspicious activity.” You know: you see a guy wearing a yellow star who’s escaped the ovens, you phone the local Nazis and report him.
When “witnesses at a House subcommittee hearing” divulged this little factoid of Americans’ innocence, Rep[ulsive] Jeff Duncan (R-SC) actuallylamented. “It is disappointing to me that a country that leads the world in effective advertising and marketing cannot be as effective in communicating with its own citizenry on even the most basic policies related to homeland security,” Dunce said. Who is this jerk? Though of course we’d agree with him — if  his point had been to abolish the totally incompetent (thank God!) DHS.
But it wasn’t. And so Josef Goebbels-sorry, “Robert Jensen, DHS principal deputy assistant secretary in the office of public affairs,” responded, “We will continue to expand the campaign in the coming months and years.” Years. Years more of ham-fisted SS-SS. It’s enough to send a gal screaming over the border.
Perhaps SS-SS will add Mickey D’s to Wal-Mart as bastions of its brainwashing. Only the finer joints for Our Rulers.
Update: Ralph Carter writes, “See something, say something…..isn’t this what Snowden and Manning have done? Should they not be lauded for following this directive?” Ah, but mere serfs should never expect consistency from a police-state.

A Social Phenomenon: Protests Erupt in Brazil

Michael S. Rozeff
The LRC Blog
June 21, 2013

“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable,” (JFK) See the video for an extraordinary few minutes in which JFK extols PEACE and says “The United States, as the world knows, will never start a war.”
Now, Brazil. There is no violent revolution going on there, but it may come to that. The country is experiencing mass protests, and for good reason. “The mass protests thundering across Brazil have swept up an impassioned array of grievances — costly stadiums, corrupt politicians, high taxes and shoddy schools…”
I’d like to call attention to how this came about. It came about because lots of people were fed up. A girl organized a protest, expecting a few hundred people to attend. Instead, there were tens of thousands, and then a million. It was like throwing a seed crystal into a super-saturated solution and causing crystallization throughout the whole body of liquid. It was like a wildfire spreading. This is a social phenomenon. This article should be read in full. This is what we so far have NOT seen occur in America. This is, however, what the authorities are preparing for. They know that the array of grievances of Americans is growing by the day, week, month and year. They know that they have not addressed these grievances, and they know that when the promises of government cannot be kept, these grievances are going to spill into the streets. Or sooner, depending on this unpredictable phenomenon:
“Ms. Vivian and her fellow activists could not explain the change that had suddenly brought huge crowds into the streets all around the country.
“’People finally woke up,’ Ms. Vivian said. Asked why it happened now, she shrugged and said, ‘We really don’t know.’”

Obama Planning New Carbon Curbs on Power Plants

Jack Kenny
The New American
June 21, 2013

In a move likely to renew debate over administration “end runs” around Congress, President Obama is preparing regulations to limit carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants, the New York Times reported Thursday. The administration has already taken steps to limit “greenhouse gas” emissions from newly built power plants, the paper noted, but imposing those limits on plants already built and operating will be far more expensive.
Legislation to limit the emissions has been stalled in Congress, but Heather Zichal, White House coordinator for energy and climate change, said the renewable power and energy efficiency requirements under consideration by the administration will not require legislative approval or congressional funding. The regulations would be promulgated by the Environmental Protection Agency, an administrative body created by executive order of President Nixon in 1970 and ratified by Congress later that year.
“The E.P.A. has been working very hard on rules that focus specifically on greenhouse gases from the coal sector,” Zichal told theTimes. “They’re doing a lot of important work in that space.”
Apart from the constitutional issue regarding the separation of legislative and executive powers, Republicans have criticized Obama’s policy on climate change and the existing EPA regulations as obstacles to economic recovery. Even some Democrats who are “hawkish about climate action,” the Times noted, fear that new standards on power plants might come at the cost of higher energy prices and fewer jobs, particularly in the industrial Midwest, a region dependent on relatively inexpensive energy from coal. The new regulations are also likely to spark protests from coal-producing states such as Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
In a unanimous 2007 Supreme Court decision, the justices ruled in Environmental Defense v. Duke Energy Corp that the EPA has the power to impose emission standards under the broad authority granted the agency by Congress in the Clean Air Act. But when the executive branch moves unilaterally to impose restrictions that Congress has refused to pass, howls of protest are often heard on Capitol Hill, as happened when the EPA came out with “cap and trade” regulations in 2011.
Early the following year, a group of 16 prominent scientists and engineers issued a statement challenging the widespread notion that scientists are virtually unanimous in sounding the alarm over climate change and calling for drastic legislation to combat it. The signers, including World Federation of Science president Antonio Zichichi, said one reason for their lack of alarm is the absence of any evidence of global warming for the previous 10 years:
The lack of warming for more than a decade, indeed, the smaller-than-predicted warming over the 22 years since the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) began issuing projections, suggests that computer models have greatly exaggerated how much warming additional CO2 can cause. Faced with this embarrassment, those promoting alarm have shifted their drumbeat from warming to weather extremes, to enable anything unusual that happens in our chaotic climate to be ascribed to CO2.
Obama did, in fact, cite weather extremes in a speech in Berlin, Germany, Wednesday, calling for “bold action” to slow the alleged warming of the planet.
“The grim alternative affects all nations: more severe storms, more famine and floods, new waves of refugees, coastlines that vanish, oceans that rise,” the president declared. “This is the global threat of our time.”
When last October’s “Superstorm” Sandy hit the East Coast, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City were among those who attributed the harsh winds and drenching rains to man-made climate change.
“Anyone who says there’s not a dramatic change in weather patterns, I think is denying reality,” Cuomo said at the time. “What is clear is that the storms that we’ve experienced in the last year or so, around this country and around the world, are much more severe than before.”
“Several weeks ago, Superstorm Sandy gave us a preview of what to expect if climate change is not addressed,” Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said in a video message to participants in last fall’s United Nations conference on global warming.
But Martin Hoerling, a meteorologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, offered a different explanation of Sandy’s wrath:
Great events can have little causes. In this case, the immediate cause is most likely little more that the coincidental alignment of a tropical storm with an extratropical storm. Both frequent the west Atlantic in October…. So, while it will rain like “black cats and Frankenweenies” over the mid-Atlantic, this is not some spell conjured upon us by great external forces…. unless you believe in the monster flicks of Universal Studios fame!
Citing what was then a new study in the journal Nature, science and environmental writer Andrew Revkin wrote in 2002:
Four times since the last ice age, at intervals roughly 3,000 years apart, the Northeast has been struck by cycles of storms far more powerful than any in recent times, according to a new study. The region appears to have entered a fifth era in which such superstorms are more likely, the researchers say.
Emissions from coal-burning power plants could hardly have been the cause of extreme weather patterns going back to the last ice age, but President Obama had promised long before Sandy’s arrival that he would promote environmental policies that would drive up the cost of energy. Early in his first campaign for the White House, then-Senator Obama told the San Francisco Chronicle:
Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket…. Coal-powered plants, you know, natural gas, you name it, whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.
The economy will benefit “over the long term” through “more efficient energy usage and changing light bulbs and more efficient appliances, but also technology improving how we can produce clean energy,” Obama said in that January 2008 interview. Back then, he also said Congress and the American people would have to be sold on that idea.
“The problem is, can you get the American people to say this is really important and force their representatives to do the right thing?” he said. Congress has yet to do the “right thing” by passing the administration’s proposals, but the president no longer sees that as a barrier to his ambitious energy plans.
“The president couldn’t get it done through legislation, so now he’s doing it through regulation, using our tax dollars to make it happen,” pointed out Oklahoma Republican Senator James Inhofe.
Obama administration efforts on behalf of the climate change agenda include working for a United Nations treaty requiring emission controls in the industrialized nations of the world. That effort, Inhofe charged, is not really about the environment.
“It’s about one thing: spreading the wealth around,” he declared, noting the point made in the following lead paragraph of an Associated Press report on the UN conference on climate change in Doha, Qatar, last November:
As nearly 200 countries meet in oil-and-gas-rich Qatar for annual talks starting Monday on slowing global warming, one of the main challenges will be raising climate aid for poor countries at a time when budgets are strained by financial turmoil.
President Obama, having presided over annual federal deficits of a trillion dollars and more, is familiar with the problem of strained budgets. But his solution to our own “financial turmoil” is energy prices that will “skyrocket.”
